Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina Jolie Voight (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California), is an American actress, director, and producer best known for her sex appeal as well as her humanitarian work. She won an Academy Award for her supporting character as a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her youth in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. After being at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute two years later, she was attended Beverly Hills High School. Then, she pursued a degree in acting at New York University. She also performed in theater productions as well as modeled for music videos. It was during Hackers (1995) that Jolie first met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married in 1996, divorced in 1999). The film was not well-loved, as were a number of other films. Jolie was the segregationist wife of Alabama's governor, attracting lots of attention in 1997. The actress later won a Golden Globe Award. In the following year, she played a supermodel suffering from addiction issues in the HBO film Gia which won her several awards which included a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999, she appeared in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and that same year, she got married Thornton (divorced 2003).After the Oscar-winning turn in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie was a part of a number of action films. Jolie portrayed the carjacker's girlfriend (Nicolas Cage), in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Later, she adopted an accent that resembled a British accent as well as mastered street fights and kickboxing in order to perform the roles of Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. Jolie played Alexander's mom in Oliver Stone's Alexander in 2004. She she also appeared alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow which is a suspense film featuring sci-fi in 1930s New York City. Both films failed at the box office however Jolie made a splash in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) which was a film in which she portrayed an assassin disguised as a typical housewife. While making the film she was introduced to Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
